Welcome to Week 5!

Just a reminder that Monday 2nd March is a public holiday.  Due to this, the Kindy Blue Group will only be attending school on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

We are aware that many of you are very eager to give up your time to volunteer in your child’s classroom, therefore we have placed a parent volunteer roster next to the door of our classroom. Parent volunteer times are from 8:45 until 10:30 (start of the day until recess) and we would absolutely love for any parents or other family members who may be able to spare a couple of hours of their morning to sign their name up on our parent roster. Thank you to those parents/family members who have already put their name on our parent roster!

Literacy

Our letter of the week will be the ‘S s’ phonic sound. Throughout the week we will practise the ‘S s’ sound by identifying words that start with this sound such as snake. To reinforce student’s learning of the ‘S s’ sound, we will have a ‘supermarket’ themed dramatic play area, create ‘spotty snakes’, and make ‘stretchy sparkly slime’.

Numeracy

Our number of the week will be the number 3. Students will learn how to write the number 3 and will have the opportunity to practise counting and identifying 3 items during activities such as the beanbag toss, number fishing, and the number soup game.

Science

The focus for science this term is our five senses. This week we will explore the senses of touch and sight. Students will be making coloured lens glasses to discover the sense of sight, and feely bags and slime will be used to investigate the sense of touch.

Health (CHAT)

This term students have been learning about pedestrian safety. For example, knowing how to cross the road safely and understanding what various road signs and signals mean. To reinforce what students have learnt so far, this week we will be outside in our outdoor play area practicing how to cross the road safely using our road mats and signs.

HASS

Thank you once again to the families who brought in their family photos, as students used these last week for a speaking and listening task. The students were very excited to tell their fellow peers all about their family!

News

Last week we sent news bags home with four students from each class, as news will be starting this week. When your child receives a news bag, they will need to choose one item that is very special them and tells us something about them. We encourage you to choose something other than toys, such as books, photos of places you have visited, sporting items, trophies, menus from restaurants, photos of pets and photos taken at events. We ask that your child practices what they will talk about, for example what it is, why they like it and why it is special to them. This item should be placed in the news bag and brought back to school on the next day that your child attends Kindy.

It is extremely important that these news bags are brought back on your next Kindy day because these news bags are rotated, meaning that if your child forgets to bring the news bag back to school, another child will miss out on taking the news bag home with them.

Students who will be bringing their news to school this week Wednesday:
