Week 4

Thank you to all of the families that attended our Parent Evening. We have attached a copy of the PowerPoint that was presented on the evening. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to arrange a meeting with us.

Literacy

Our letter for this week is the ‘A a’ phonic sound. We will be exploring words that have this sound. For example, apple starts with Aa.

We are learning to recognise our name, this includes finding our name tag on our bag hooks, finding our names inside the classroom and playing name games during our mat sessions.

Numeracy

This week we are reviewing the number 1 and learning all about the number 2. In our classroom students have loved making 'Number Soups' where they have been able to practise identifying numbers, shapes and colours in order to create a delicious soup for Mr Bear!

HASS

Thank you to the families that have bought in their family photos. The children are enjoying talking about family and role playing different family members in our home corner.

Cooking

During week 4, we will be constructing ‘Ants on an Apple’ to reinforce the Aa phonic sound. The ingredients are apples, honey and sultanas. This is also a great way for us to explore our five senses. For example, What does it taste like? What does it smell like?

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to the Kindy Class of 2020!

I am Miss Karis Smith and I will be Room 4’s Blue Group class teacher on Monday and Thursday. Mrs Emma Cilfone will be the Class Teacher on Wednesday, when I will be out of class performing duties other than teaching. Mrs Katherine Chaplyn will be the Education Assistant in Room 4. We are so excited to be teaching your child this year. Welcome back to families who have other children at Wattle Grove Primary and a warm welcome to those who are new to the school. We are looking forward to a productive year with our 2020 Kindergarten students.

It is wonderful to see children settling into the routines at school and developing a love of learning.  Starting school is a big step for children (and parents) so please don’t hesitate to speak with us if you have questions, concerns or information you would like to share.

A few Kindergarten details for your information:
Our Room has two groups
  1. BLUE GROUP attends school on MONDAYS and THURSDAYS and ALTERNATE WEDNESDAYS (odd school weeks e.g. week 1, 3, 5, 7, 9)
  2. RED GROUP attends school on TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS and ALTERNATE WEDNESDAYS (even school weeks e.g. week 2, 4, 6, 8, 10)
  • School times on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are 8.45am to 3.05pmOn Tuesday school finishes early at 2.30pm.
  • The classroom doors will open at 8.30am. If you arrive prior to 8.30am you must wait outside the classroom with your child.
  • If someone other than yourself is picking your Kindergarten child up, we will need a written note on the day or ring and inform the front office who will pass on the information to us. If this is going to be a regular arrangement (e.g. grandparents, day care, family friend) you will need to add their names to your child’s contact list at the office).
  • Each day your child will need to bring recess and lunch, a drink bottle of water (no cordial or juice please).
  • Students are not to bring toys to school, unless it is required for an activity.
  • If you have any questions, please come and speak to me.

We are looking forward to getting to know you all.
